Swept Under the Mets

The Arizona Diamondbacks were swept in a three-game weekend series to the New York Mets dropping the finale, 8-4.

Armando Galarraga (3-1) struggled in his three innings allowing 4H/ 6R/ 2ER/ 4BB/ 5K.  The right-hander surrendered two more home runs increasing his total to a whopping eight for the season (4 starts).

Ryan Roberts throwing error opened the floodgates for a huge third inning.  The scoring was capped off by former Prescott High School star, Jason Pridie hitting his first career home run. David Wright connected on his second home run of the game off Jason Collmenter in the 4th inning extending the lead to 7-0.

Stephen Drew was the offensive star of the game for the Dbacks continuing his torrid start with three hits.

The Diamondbacks look to snap their four-game skid tonight against Cliff Lee and the Philadelphia Phillies.  RHP Ian Kennedy is scheduled to make his fifth start of the season.

Final Score: Mets win 8-4

Barry Enright (0-2) continues to struggle.  The right-hander pitched 5 2/3 IP allowing 12H/ 5ER/ 1BB/ 2K.  Enright has allowed 4 runs or more in all four starts this season.

Stephen Drew opened the scoring in the first inning lining a triple down the right field line plating Justin Upton.  Miguel Montero connected on a 437-foot home run to right field to tie the game in the sixth.

However, the Mets recaptured the lead for good on a David Murphy single in the bottom half of the inning.

The game was suspended for 1 hour 21 minutes before the start due to rain.

Final Score: Mets win 6-4

The Diamondbacks’ opened a weekend series against the struggling New York Mets at Citi Field.  The team from Queens entered Friday night’s game with a 2-8 home record.

Joe Saunders pitched his best of game of the season despite taking a no-decision.  The left-hander threw 6IP/ 2H/ 1ER/ 3BB/ 4K.

The turning point of the game occurred in the first inning.  Chris Young led off the game with a triple and Kelly Johnson drew a walk.  However, the Diamondbacks were unable to capitalize on the excellent scoring opportunity.

Consecutive doubles in the third inning by Kelly Johnson and Justin Upton accounted for the Diamondbacks only run of the game.

Esmerling Vasquez (0-1) suffered the loss in relief allowing a home run to Ike Davis in the 7th inning .  The Mets scored two unearned runs in the 8th inning off Juan Gutierrez to extend the lead.

Final Score: Mets win 4-1
